Whistler, BC; for over a decade named the
Number 1 ski resort in North
America, just earned one more award. "The
Perfect Ski Hill" Award in the most recent edition of
Skipressworld.
Johan de Deugd, our recently recruited manager
of sales and I headed to Whistler two weekends ago to verify first
hand, the merit of this recent honour and to confirm the reports of
excellent early snow.
During this trip, we experienced both Whistler Creekside and Whistler Village North, staying at
First Tracks Lodge and
Summit Lodge and Spa.

First Tracks Lodge is the closest accommodation
to the gondola base at Whistler Creekside. In fact, it may very well
be the closest accommodation to any lift in Whistler!
Whistler Creekside comes of age
The Creekside location at Whistler, is where
Whistler started, back in the 60's. During that time, the site of
today's Whistler Village was a garbage dump and a place you
were guaranteed to find bears. But this is fodder for a story
another time.
In any event, while Whistler Village was being
developed into the premier resort it is today, the Creekside was
pretty much left alone.

| Until a few years ago.
Today, this area is a neat little village in its
own right. Condos, town homes and even some estates fill the base
and line the bottom of the runs that finish here.
It has all the amenities one would want. And
everything is close by.
A Perfect Location for a Family Vacation
This is especially true if you bring your
family. The
units of First Tracks Lodge for example, are large and
luxurious. But the price is much less than in the main Village, 5
minutes away by car, 10 if you take the public bus.
Within 100 yards, you will find: guest
services, the base lift, day care, ski school, restaurants,
equipment rentals, a bank, coffee shop, grocery store and more. |
 |
All within easy walking from your lodging. With
young children, this is a huge plus.
Additionally, it is much quieter and again, for a family, I can't
think of better.

| Was the skiing perfect?
Lift passes and rentals took only minutes to get.
There were no lift lines to speak of.
As you can see from my photos, it was a "blue
bird" day.
We had our own personal guide, Colin Travers,
long-time Whistler resident and our Whistler Manager.
Snow coverage was excellent and soft, powdery
snow was found in Sun Bowl and particularly Whistler Bowl off of the
Peak Chair.
I can honestly say that I have had better
days. There could have been two feet of powder with ski access from
peak to valley. It could have been warmer. But with over 40 years of
skiing under my belt, I've had my share of "epic" days.
The key for a perfect ski day, though is
always the same: good ski friends, a great mountain and a joy for
living.
So yes; the skiing was perfect.
To more perfect days,
