Great Early Snowfall means great early skiing

Whistler base, Nov 12

Last year at this time, I skied the summit at Lake Louise and although there was only a strip of 50 meters ski able up at the top, it was good for an opening day.

This year, I elected to work and spend time with my family and the opening weekend proved to be better than last year. (What was I thinking!) These pics are the proof.

Whistler opening this Saturday

Our good fortune here in the Canadian Rockies is being shared by our fellows in Whistler, on the Pacific Coast. They have just received over 75 cm of new snow (that's 2.5 feet) with more on the way.

The photo at upper left, is the base at Mt. Baker, in Washington, just south of Vancouver. I threw that in just to get you in the mood for skiing; although my pro patrol friends at Whistler tell me it is like that in the upper mountain right now.

Jasper's Marmot Basin opening Friday

The mountain resorts of Alberta will be fully open this Friday when Marmot Basin opens, two weeks ahead of schedule.
