What a weekend to be a Canadian skier living
in the mountains of Canada! First Manny Osbourne-Paradis wins a
Silver Medal in the opening World Cup downhill on Saturday. Then
John Kucera, of Calgary sets the standard as the first skier
down for Sunday's Super-G; a standard that bested the world's
best skiers.
Both of these young racers are only 22.
For both, it was their first trip onto the podium in a World Cup
race.
For my son, Tristan, who is a young FIS
racer of 16, it was a huge day. It is one more indication to him
and his teammates that success is possible for them too, in a
few years time.
Canada #1 for snow too!
While the news in Europe continues to
focus on warm weather and possible cancellations of ski races,
the snow gods continue to favor Canada.
Look at the conditions in the back bowls
of Lake Louise! Mid-season conditions prevail. And Sunshine
Village, near Banff, has now opened the Delirium Dive, an
extreme bowl that usually remains closed until late in December. |

Whistler/Blackcomb now
nearing 400 cmOur Whistler rep
took his camera up Blackcomb mountain on Sunday and got these
magnificent shots featured at right. Whistler has continued to
get hammered with winter storms and is now probably closing in
on 400 cm (12-13 feet) of snow since Nov 1.
I don't know about you but as far as I can
see, this is a good as it gets. Deep, fluffy snow and fresh
lines.
Presidents week now
filling up
If you haven't made your ski plans yet,
now is a good time to do so. There is still some places left
during the Christmas holidays but it is getting tight. Even
Presidents Week in mid-February is beginning to sell out,
especially the best rooms and best located condos.
So if you wish to come during those times,
you really shouldn't delay. Call us today to help you make those
arrangements or fill out our online request from by
