Less than two weeks ago
Canada celebrated its Thanksgiving. I and my family made our
pilgrimage down to Southern Alberta to visit with my wife’s
parents and her sister’s family, who live in the same small
city. This year's visit was extra special as we were also
celebrating my mother-in-law’s 70th birthday.
It is a nice drive of 3-4
hours across open, rolling prairie. Many fields sported huge
bales of hay while in others, farmers were busy combining
the last of the summer's wheat crop.
The
snowy peaks of the Canadian Rocky Mountains were just
visible on the horizon to the west.
As I
drove, I thought back to last year's Thanksgiving. The two
devastating hurricanes that slammed into Florida and
Louisiana sprang immediately to mind. And I was thankful
that those residents were spared this year.
