Where
the Stars Shine Brightly
"Look at how magnificent the stars are
tonight. I can see Orion, The Pleides, The Great Bear. They are
so clear!"
My wife and I were driving back from Banff
to Canmore late last Saturday night, with friends Mike and Lynn,
new residents of Canmore. We had been attending a benefit dinner
at the Fairmont Banff Springs, that included celebrities
such as Alec Baldwin, Tim Robbins and Christie Brinkley. 80's
Rocker, Peter Frampton was still playing crowd favorites when we
left.
The event was a fund raiser for a grass
roots organization called the "Waterkeepers
Alliance", championed by Robert Kennedy Jr.
It somehow seemed appropriate that on this
particular night, the pristine beauty of the Canadian Rockies
was starkly evident.
The power of the scene above reminded me
of the TV series "Roots" when as a baby, Kunta Kinte, was raised
high above his father's head in homage to the starry sky. The
father then cries out these words: "Behold the only thing
greater than you!"
Where
one can embrace nature fully I
captured the scenes above at right over a week ago. They
embody to me what we experienced the other night, so I thought I
would share them with you. Should you come visit us, I am
confident that you too will experience the powerful spirit of
nature and that your soul will be comforted in making its
acquaintance.
"Can I
Do It?" Those were the first
thoughts of my Tour Manager, Brenda Cardinal, as she prepared
herself for her first Heli-skiing trip.
"The helicopter dropped us at the top
of this incredible glacier. I stood and looked down and thought
what am I doing?
