Offer extended on our winter escape package

What a month February turned out to be! More snow, relatively warm temperatures and lots of turns with friends and family. I couldn't have asked for more.

In fact, it was so busy I neglected to keep all of you truly informed on how great it has been. To try and make amends I am extending the great offers I made last month on three winter escape packages to March 15!

Priced from only $899 per person, there is no better way to your sweeties heart than one of these get-aways. That certainly seems to be what this couple was thinking at right and while I don't expect you to go this far...why not?

Panorama - a great resort for the family

February saw my family make the short trek to Panorama, two hours west of Banff in the Purcell Mountains.

What makes Panorama special to us is the easy ski-in, ski-out network of condo accommodations, great hot tubs and warm pool for the kids and the excellent learn to ski terrain.

This time we had a three bedroom condo, which was more than big enough for our two families; a total of 4 adults and 3 kids. If you have young children, there is nothing like being able to ski back to your condo unit to either warm up, grab a quick snack or simply relax, before heading out again.

This time, we invited our friends the Brodericks, new to Canmore, to join us. Having lived most of their lives south of the border, they never had the opportunity to do much skiing.

This gave us an excellent chance to share our love of the sport. At middle is my wife Jan, helping their youngest, Anthony, take his first runs on skis. He was very timid at first but by the end, he didn't want to stop!

Annual Meeting of AMPA at Fernie

When I first moved west from Ontario some 25 years ago, I was fortunate to find a great cadre of young folks who also shared my passion for skiing and outdoor activities.

Every weekend, we would end up joining each other at various mountains throughout Alberta and BC, attempting to out do each other in our pursuit of the perfect line.

We very grandly referred to our group as the "Alberta Mountain Peoples Association".

As we grew older and moved our separate ways, many of this group continued to meet each winter for a week of skiing, re-kindling friendships, sharing a passion for winter powder.

This year, the group re-united at the ski resort of Fernie, BC. The energy level was high, the snow plentiful and the company as good as ever.

Lake Louise As Good As It Gets

The last Saturday of February, I joined with our good friends the Butlers, for some epic skiing at Lake Louise. It had been several weeks since I had been and the scene was magnificent.

Every chute, bowl and gulley on the backside was inviting you to taste its pleasures. One great run at right is the entrance to a chute near East Bowl. The cornice looks tough but the rewards below justify the leap.

Skiing - to be shared with those you love

Skiing is one of those activities where young and old, friends and family can get together and have a great time. Differences in skill level is less important. The stories shared of spills and thrills, is.

I am blessed in having been introduced to skiing at very young age. But I also have had the great pleasure of introducing the sport to hundreds of people; from grand-kids to grandfathers.

I know each of them will be sharing a new passion for winter with those they love. I encourage you to do likewise.

Warm regards,
